Thailand's biggest city offers many exciting things to do. Bangkok is quite busy and fast-paced, a change from the other cities in Thailand that are known to be more relaxed. Bangkok Attractions

One of the city's big tourist draw cards is the Grand Palace. It can be toured during regular hours. Its massive grounds are home to Wat Phra Kaeo, commonly known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. A 15-minute walk away from here is Wat Po, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. It is the oldest (16th century) and largest Buddhist temple in Bangkok.

Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) features a 79-metre-high, Khmer-inspired tower. Other attractions in Bangkok include: the backpacker hang-out of Khao San road; Wat Saket with its elevated fortifications; Chinatown; Siam Square; Jim Thompson's House; and the Red Cross Snake Farm, which offers hair-raising snake-handling demonstrations.

There are all-too-many outdoor markets to see in Bangkok, offering goods at a decent price as long as you're willing to bargain. The enormous Chatuchak weekend market at Mochit is one of the better known ones that is fun to visit.

Out and about - car hire in Bangkok

There are several car hire companies available in Bangkok. However, having a hire car inside the city probably isn't very convenient, since there is so much traffic. There are many small villages you can visit by hire car, or you can drive to some tourist areas like ancient ruins or temples.
