Spain’s capital is full of life, culture and great places to visit. Madrid is also rich in history and has the museums, old architecture, and landmarks to prove it. The locals will make sure you have a fun time while in their city, as Spaniards are known to be friendly and always ready for a good time.

Attractions

The oldest area of the city is called Madrid of the Habsburgs and the sites to see here include Puerta del Sol and Casa de Correos, the head quarters of the Community of Madrid's Autonomous Government. Also near here is the El Oso y El Madroņo (the Bear and the Strawberry Tree) a famous statue and the official symbol of the city.

Visitors should take the time to stroll through Plaza Mayor, a historic square originally planned by Felipe II for public executions, crowning ceremonies, bullfights, inquisition trials and countless fiestas. The Plaza now has plenty of craft shops and cafes to visit.

Faunia makes a good family outing. This nature park is home to 4,000 animals and more than 72,000 trees and shrubs.

The Royal Palace, a grand structure still home to Spanish royalty, was built in the 1560s and is adjacent to a pleasant park. The palace makes a neat attraction and a beautiful photo opportunity.
