Phuket is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Thailand. Several beaches in the area offer white sand against crystal clear water. At night, Phuket gets especially busy with many discos, bars, and restaurants to flock to.

Attractions

The key draw card of Phuket is its beautiful beaches and fine choice of water sports. Patong beach is the closest, but filled with tourists. There are other more secluded beaches available in the area as well. In town, visitors can visit the small rural temples, with the most famous being Wat Pra Tong.

Thalang National Museum, in the east just off highway 402, is also worth a visit. It provides insight into Phuket’s indigenous cultures and the history of the Thais on Phuket, and also displays crafts from the southern Thai regions.

Sea Gypsies are considered the indigenous people of Phuket and are related to the Malaysian Orang Laut and the southern Thai Sakai tribes. They have a few small settlements on Phuket and several travel companies offer day trips to visit the settlements.

Phuket has quite a chaotic night scene. Thai boxing, bars, nightclubs, karaoke lounges, go-go bars, and dance shows are a few of the night entertainment options.

Hotels in Phuket

Phuket has plenty of hotels. You can stay at an inexpensive guest house, which there many in walking distance of Patong beach. Alternatively, there are some plush resorts and hotels that are a little more pricey. Find the type of Phuket hotel you’re looking for here.

During the high tourist season, from November to March, accommodation fills up and prices increase. Thus, it is recommended that you reserve a Phuket hotel in advance. You can get a hotel in Phuket at a good price online.

Out and about - car hire in Phuket
